Reborn Classic Ping Anser Forged Irons

You might think that the Ping Anser Forged Irons are the first forged iron set Ping ever made but actually it’s not. The first forged irons ever produced by ping (1961) were actually forged blanks that Karsten milled cavities into. For years many have wondered in Ping would ever create a forged iron again, and for those people late 2010 with the release of the Anser iron will be a dream come true. As expected, the clubhead materials and overall design package contribute to a softer, quieter impact sensation. The forged "8620 carbon steel" clubface is thick behind the hitting area, similar to a muscleback blade, while a "support bar" (just below the oval "custom tuning port") connects the face to the back flange. A heavy tungsten-nickel sole in the [b]Ping Anser Forged Irons[/b] (22 percent of clubhead mass) serves many functions, too: It dampens vibration more so than less-dense metals (aka steel), shifts the club's center of gravity more rearward (to increase ball trajectory), and boosts overall forgiveness. The forgiveness bit ties into a hollow cavity (behind the lower portion of the face) that redistributes 30 grams away from the face. The Anser has forgiveness qualities that are similar to the i15's, but the Anser looks cleaner, feels noticeably smoother, produces more spin on short irons and flies slightly lower in the long irons.
 
The looks of the [b]Ping Anser Forged Irons[/b] are similar to the Ping i15′s and there was not much you could say bad about them really. The only way they could improve on them might be the feel and the 8620 forged version will surely improve on that. Even though Ping’s castings are some of the best in the business when it comes to feel already.
